Orihime has an overt romantic interest in Ichigo, but Ichigo treats her similar to his sisters. Rukia and Ichigo's relationship is a matter of fact for. I will forever believe this is what Ichigo and Rukia truly feel about each other. Ichigo married Orihime and have a child named Kazui. She loved him with her all and that was enough to feel content with the relationship. I remember when they tried bonding Ichigo with Orihime whenever she had her tried to give backstory to Rukia and Renji's relationship when they were kids.
How could it exist with at least half its captains dead? However, there is a wistfulness, bittersweet, whenever a long watched anime series ends. Bleach will return when the final arc is finished.
But, there is still a feeling of finality. Awww… so cute Fictional characters have as much of an impact on us as real people. We cry with them and savor their victories. Some people grow up with them. Goku is a friend and role model for many people. While I entered anime too late in my 20s to have anime characters be role models, I appreciate the impact they can have.

For many teens, Ichigo is the new Goku. His struggles has shaped their teen years. Consider how long 7 years or so can be. A 13 year old will watch Bleach through the entirety of his teen years.
She will literally grow up with Ichigo and Rukia. This is why people look fondly on Goku. This is why people will also look fondly on Ichigo and Rukia.
These characters are a part of growing up. Both DBZ and Bleach provide moral lessons that the viewer will internalize over the years of watching. There are worse role models than Goku and Ichigo. Anime characters are easier to identify with than American superheroes. They have to work up to their powers.
Sometime later, a swarm of Hollows invaded their town, leaving Ichigo in a difficult place as all of his friends and loved ones were at risk of being killed by them. When Orihime and Tatsuki were attacked by a Hollow, Orihime revealed her own latent spiritual powers and defeated it. She then decides to join Ichigo on his adventures. Both resolve to improve their skills in preparation for the next assault. An Arrancar named Ulquiorra corners Orihime and threatens to kill her friends if she doesn't agree to join their side.
Orihime sneaks into Ichigo's room while he's sleeping and confesses her love for him. Orihime with Ichigo When Ichigo finds out that Orihime was abducted by the Arrancar, he gathers his closest allies and launches an attack on their fortress. He gets to Orihime, only for her to be pulled out of his reach once again.

Ichigo finally catches Orihime being guarded by Ulquiorra and the two duel for her freedom. Ulquiorra overpowers and kills Ichigo, causing Orihime to panic. The last thing Ichigo hears is Orihime crying his name, which causes his own power, revive him, corrupt and turn him into his full Hollow form. Hollow-Ichigo then brutally beat Ulquiorra down, the only damage he took was to his mask, which was enough to cause Ichigo to change back. Ulquiorra then dies from his injuries. A year later, Orihime is attacked by a new enemy known as Tsukishima.
He cuts Orihime, but doesn't kill her for some reason. When Ichigo finds out, Orihime tells him that Tsukishima is an old friend of hers without realizing it.
